An assignment's controls determine how problems are presented to a student and how the student interacts with those problems, including how many submissions are allowed, how many attempts a student gets per problem, and many, many more settings.
Rather than specify these settings for each individual assignment, it is often helpful to define control defaults that can be applied to different assignments. Edfinity provides two sets of default controls out of the box, which you can customize, and you can create additional default controls as needed.
- Homework default controls allow students to attempt each problem multiple times, providing them with feedback and encouraging them to work until they correct answer each item.
- Test default controls do not provide feedback to the student, who answers each problem and then submits the entire assignment once completed.
To create a set of assignment default controls:
- Select More > Assignment default controls from the top menu.
- Select Create new default controls.
- Specify a name and select the control defaults from which you'd like to copy existing values as a starting point.
- Select Create.
To edit a set of assignment default controls:
- Select More > Assignment default controls from the top menu.
- Select the default controls you want to edit.
- Use the left tabs to customize controls as desired. For more information on environment settings, see the Assignment controls reference guide
To apply default controls to an assignment:
- Go to the assignment and select the Settings > Modes & Submissions tab.
- If you are currently using custom controls, select the Use defaults instead button.
- From the dropdown, select the default controls you want to apply to the assignment.
- Be sure to publish the assignment if you want the changes to be available to students.
- For more information, see Configuring controls for an assignment.
