Configuring Edfinity an an external tool in D2L

As a D2L administrator, follow these steps to integrate Edfinity with D2L as an external tool.

  1. Contact Edfinity at support@edfinity.com to receive a consumer key and shared secret for your institution.
  2. Under Site Resources, select External Learning Tools.
  3. Select Manage Tool Providers (Legacy), and then select New Tool Provider.
  4. Specify the following values:
    1. Launch Point = edfinity.com
    2. Version = Inherit Global (1.1)
    3. OAuth Signature Method = HMAC-SHA1
    4. Secret = <provided secret>
    5. Key = <provided key> - make sure Use custom tool consumer information is checked.
    6. Name = Edfinity (or name of your choice)
    7. Security Settings - be sure ALL of these options are checked.
  5. Save.

After the external tool is created, you and authorized users will be able to create external tool links within lessons that link to an assignment or course. See Integrating D2L with Edfinity for more information.

Testing the Integration

If you'd like to test the integration without setting up your own Edfinity account, you can follow the following steps:

  1. Under Site Resources, select External Learning Tools.
  2. Select Manage Tool Links (Legacy).
  3. Choose New Link.
  4. Enter the following values:
    1. Title = Edfinity Test 
    2. URL = https://edfinity.com/lti/assess?assignment_id=5e1df06d1a0ec26dfebf2787
    3. Sign messages with key/secret = ON
    4. Signature = Tool consumer key/secret
  5. Save and close.
  6. Add your link to any module.
  7. When launched, if you are taken to edfinity.com and prompted to enroll (at no cost), the integration is working.
