A pool (or learning objective) defines a bucket of problems within an assignment from which problems may be randomly selected for each student. This ensures that each student is served different but pedagogically unique problems for a stated learning objective.
- Problems may be drawn randomly from the pool (default behavior), or selected as-is in order.
- Each problem in the pool is worth the number of points you specify.
- From the assignment editor, you can easily create pools and move problems in and out of pools.
- Pool configuration is a publishable change (one that requires you to publish your assignment for changes to take effect).
Pools can be used effectively in both homework and test scenarios. We recommend following guidelines when constructing pools:
- Problems in a pool should have similar difficulty levels.
- Problems in a pool should have a similar number of parts of similar types.
- Problems in a pool should take approximately the same amount of time to complete.
