Activation codes are used to password-protect assignments. They are useful in scenarios where you are administering a test for several groups of students at different times, and you do not want students in different groups to share a password.
When supervising an assignment that requires a key, give an activation code to students so that they can start. You only need one code per room of students. Each activation code is valid for a fixed amount of time.
To obtain an activation code for use on a password-protected assignment:
- Select More > Assignment Activation from the top menu.
- A number of codes are automatically generated for you. If you need to generate additional codes, select Create activation code.
Note: By default, activation codes expire 30 minutes after they are first used. Take precaution when extending this duration.
To change the expiration time for activation codes:
- Select More > Assignment Activation from the top menu.
- Modify the expiration time as needed.
Configuring an assignment to require an activation code
To configure an assignment to require an activation code:
- Go to the assignment and select the Settings > Restrictions tab.
- Select Requires activation code to start.
- Publish the assignment.
Starting an assignment that requires an activation code
If an assignment has been configured to require an activation code, students will be prompted to provide the code when they access the assignment. Give the code to them when applicable. Remember that activation codes expire after their first use (30 minutes by default).
