Configuring Edfinity as an LTI tool provider in Blackboard
As a Blackboard administrator, follow these steps to integrate Edfinity with Blackboard as an external tool.
- Contact Edfinity at support@edfinity.com to receive a consumer key and shared secret for your institution.
- From the Administration Panel, select LTI Tool Providers and then select Register Provider Domain.
- Enter the following field values:
- Provider Domain = edfinity.com
- Tool Provider Key = <consumer key>
- Tool Provider Secret = <shared secret>
- Tool Provider Custom Parameters = section_name=@X@course.course_name@X@
- User Fields to Send. Be sure all are checked.
- Select Submit to add the provider.
Adding a deep linking content tool placement
To allow instructors to link to assignments within their course, create a deep linking content tool placement.
- Next to the provider name, open the menu and select Manage Placements and then select Create Placement.
- Enter the following field values:
- Placement Information
- Label = Edfinity Assignments
- Handle = Edfinity Assignments
- Type = Deep Linking Content Tool
(Note: if you do not see this option, choose Course content tool with Supports deep linking instead.) - Launch in New Window = checked. Some browsers treat embedded deep links as cross-site tracking and prevent them from working properly. It is strongly advised that you check this option.
- Tool Provider Information
- Tool Provider URL = https://edfinity.com/lti/select_assignment
- Tool Provider URL = https://edfinity.com/lti/select_assignment
- Placement Information
- Select Submit.
After the LTI tool provider is created, you and authorized users will be able to create links to an Edfinity assignment or course within their Blackboard course. See Integrating Blackboard with Edfinity for more information.
Adding a course content tool placement
In the rare case where you want to set up a link to a specific assignment or course, you can create a course content tool placement.
- Next to the provider name, open the menu and select Manage Placements and then select Create Placement.
- Enter the following field values:
- Placement Information
- Type = Course content tool
- Select Allows grading.
- Tool Provider Information
- Tool Provider URL. Ask the instructor to give you the direct link to the course or assignment. Instructions can be found here.
- Placement Information
- Select Submit.
Testing the Integration
If you'd like to test the integration without setting up your own Edfinity account, you can follow the following steps:
- From Blackboard open your course, and select Content.
- Select Build Content, and then Web Link.
- Enter https://edfinity.com/lti/assess?assignment_id=5e1df06d1a0ec26dfebf2787
- Check This is a link to a tool provider.
- Enable evaluation.
- When launched, if you are taken to edfinity.com and prompted to enroll (at no cost), the integration is working.
