An assignment is scored based on the maximum number of points possible. By default, each problem is worth 1 point for every part in the problem. However, you can override default point values and/or adjust points for individual problems.
Adjusting point defaults in an assignment
To adjust point defaults in an assignment:
- Go to the assignment and select the Settings > Scoring tab.
- Go to the Points defaults section and modify as desired.
Default | Description |
---|---|
Correct | Number of points awarded for each correct problem |
Incorrect | Number of points awarded for each incorrect problem. A negative value will penalize a student for an incorrect answer. To use this setting, Partial Credit must be turned off in the assignment environment. See Assignment Environment Reference Guide for more information. |
Unanswered | Number of points awarded for an unanswered problem. A negative value will penalize a student if they do not answer a problem. |
Starting | The initial number of points a student receives when starting an assignment. You generally use this setting only if you penalize students for incorrect or unanswered problems. |
Adjusting points for individual problems
