To score an assignment, open the assignment editor. By default, a problem is worth one point for every part in the problem (e.g., a 2-part problem is worth 2 points).
Adjusting assignment scoring defaults
To adjust how an assignment is scored, open the assignment and select the Settings tab. There are four scoring default values which can be changed:
Default | Description |
---|---|
Correct | Number of points awarded for each correct problem |
Incorrect | Number of points awarded for each incorrect problem. A negative value will penalize a student for an incorrect answer. To use this setting, Partial Credit must be turned off in the assignment environment. See Assignment Environment Reference Guide for more information. |
Unanswered | Number of points awarded for an unanswered problem. A negative value will penalize a student if they do not answer a problem. |
Starting | The initial number of points a student receives when starting an assignment. You generally use this setting only if you penalize students for incorrect or unanswered problems. |
Adjusting points for an individual problem
To adjust points for an individual problem in an assignment, open the assignment editor and select the Problems tab. Change the point value in the field to the right of each problem.
Note: If students have already started this assignment, you must publish your changes in order for students to see them. See Publishing an assignment for more information.
